A litle update...
Posted On 07/26/2008 00:45:41 by Futaci

Well I have been MIA for awhile now so I figured I would throw in an updated Blog.

I left off singing the praises of the Guardian, and to be honest he is an amazing class.  Such versatility in Solo play, and a staple in a group of any kind.  Unfortunately I kind of hit a blockage at the mid fifties.  I have noticed certain peaks and drawls in the flow of this game and the mid thirties and the mid fifties seem to be the big ones thus far.  This is fine, as it gives the game a certain amount of dificulty, but can waiver someone if they are playing a class that isn't suited to their style.  That being said, I am a caster.  Always have been, and probably always will.  From DAoC to WoW.  Eldritch to Warlock, destro speced so less of a pet class.  I finally give in.  LOL!  I love the melee in AoC, but it doesn't suit my nature really.  I like to decimate, and maintain control in a fight, and melee is too much at the mercy of the encounter IMO.

All that being said, the PoM seems to be back in action.  In the last week she has climbed through the ranks and hit 66!  I love the ability to handle multiple enemies without being at their mercy.  I mean a Guard can take a huge pull, but a few elements this way or that really decide victory or failure.  The PoM on the other hand has so many tools to heal, DPS, and CC that she is an iron horse even well out of her level range.  I am looking forward to raiding soon.  I estimate another week or so until I will be useful, but thats as good as tomorow considering the newness of this game.  One of my greatest fears for this game has to be the depth of end-game play.  I mean I know there is soooo much untouched in the end-game scene, but to max a toon out in the first few months of the game makes me wonder how long the raid and alt scene can really hold my attention.  Playing on a PvE server, as I normally do, seems to be turning into a slight issue.  As I would assume the end-game is quite different when the concept of consistant world PvP is added.  I fear for this game's life cycle, but at the same time haven't lost any adiction as yet.  I must admit to a certain excitement to the release of Warhammer AoR though.

As for the gaming from the fifties to the sixties.  WOW!  I mean anyone with time can do a few quests in Atzel's or Thunder River and then run all the villas to ding.  There isn't much of a gear jump that I can see yet either.  I personally like that.  The one big issue I have with historical game expansions is the gear that was hot all of the sudden goes to not.  LOL!  the same can be said for alot of game flows as well.  AoC seems to do rather well.  I still have a few peices from the forties that I just can't seem to do better than.  Another aspec that I have been enjoying is the solo-ability in this game.  I am moderately anti-social when wanting to get the dings, so being able to do it all alone is a nice change.

Overall AoC is an amazing game, but with tortage being so damn static for all toons, and the rapid pace with which a steady gamer can grind this game away, I wonder how long it will hold onto its appeal.  Perhaps I shot myself in the foot by playing it as hard as I have, but thats the crux.  The ideal MMO has enough progression to keep the casual guy climbing while at the same time keeping the hardcore guy trying.  With the targeted group of players being more experienced gamers I wonder if AoC hasn't aimed a bit low on the latter.  Ah well.

Play Well and Have Fun Everyone!

Due to end game content, I have a feeling that a lot of people will jump to PvP servers from PvE. I also like the solobility of this game, not having to group when you level up. I tried caster myself, but I'm the melee type. At lvl 41 I'm still hooked into finishing my DT.
